Normally a good and well installed outside Linsam air to water heat pump has a noise level range from 50dB(A) to 60dB(A), for 60dB(A) condition, it is similar like indoor talking voice level.

Noise usually come from the compressor vibration and fan speed rotating.

So we did reduce noise from two aspects:
1, Compressor shake: Normal compressor will rub with floor, or will impact with tubes and cases. We made good compressor jacket, it can highly reduce the noise.
2, Fans: As the unscientific installation of the heat pump, it will case shrill voice. For heat pump capacity higher than 20KW, all use super low noise fan motors.

Our engineer have below suggestions when you install heat pump:

1, Floor installation: If floor, better use some rubber to release shake and keep horizontal.
2, Balcony installation: We suggest a 45 degree diagonal bracing, to depart the press from vertical and horizontal.
3, Indoor window installation: Most time, heat pump is mounted beside the indoor window, we suggest keeping heat pump flown direction is perpendicular to wall, and parallel to indoor wall, by this installation, it can release the noise from wind flow.

4. Mounting a noise-absorbing base by fan and compressor, should be installed away from windows and obstructions.

Whoosh sound

During the winter time, when the outside temperatures are very low (freezing) and ice starts to build-up on the outdoor unit, the heat pump will automatically melt the ice or snow build-up utilizing the defrost cycle. The result of this action is not only the fog or vapor rising, but the specific “whoosh” sound, which is nothing unusual. During the colder weather, the heat pump which can operate at different speeds, producing the higher noise level than when it is warmer.

So it heat pumps made whoosh sound, it is nothing unusual.
